Vizzia is a cleantech pioneer in the fight against illegal dumping.
With its solution, Vizzia aims to avoid dumping 110,000 tonnes of waste into the environment by 2028.
After two years of R&D and deployment in more than 15 French local authorities, the solution has achieved an average 80% reduction in litter in 6 months.
Today, Vizzia is announcing that it has raised €3.4 million. SISTAFUND and Made for All are investing alongside leading business angels in the start-up's development.

Local cleanliness, a major environmental challenge

Since 2017, the number of offences relating to illegal dumping recorded by the French police has risen by 85%. According to the French Environment and Energy Management Agency (ADEME), this environmental incivility represents a cost of €16 billion a year in Europe and €1.5 billion in France. Every year in France, more than a million tonnes of litter are irresponsibly dumped, equivalent to the weight of a hundred Eiffel Towers.

This worrying situation is threatening the environment, polluting rivers, suffocating landscapes and affecting the quality of life of millions of people. This alarming trend requires an appropriate response to protect our territories and preserve a good quality of life.

Today, the existing surveillance cameras are not adapted to identifying illegal dumping and there are never enough officers to view all the recordings and identify incivilities.

A start-up to combat litter

Launched in 2021, Vizzia is a cleantech solution that can identify 99% of waste and classify illegal dumping. Combining energy-independent cameras, patented detection algorithms and software tailored to the job of waste officers, the solution detects the appearance of waste using a unique image superimposition logic coupled with computer vision. This "waste" focus has enabled the company to develop a "privacy by design" system that complies with RGPD directives.

With a presence in more than 15 local authorities (Porto Vecchio, Montélimar, Valbonne, etc., and currently being deployed in 14 other towns, including 4 major cities), Vizzia provides daily support to elected representatives and operational teams.

Vizzia is part of an ambitious societal approach, aiming to avoid 110,000 tonnes of waste by 2028. The introduction of this scheme will considerably reduce the financial burden on taxpayers.

Raising funds for waste management

Vizzia today announced that it has raised €3.4 million to accelerate the roll-out of its solution in many other cities in France and Europe. The fund-raising brings together SISTAFUND, Made for All and business angels specialising in the circular economy, including Hélène Lebedeff (former Director of Veolia Recyclage et Valorisation des Déchets), Antoine Robichon (former Managing Director of CITEO), SeedInvest and the co-founders of AB Tasty.
